Indigo dyeing teaches transformation, and as my Momma often said, "If we witness transformation, we know that no matter what our circumstances, we can transform ourselves. Not another person, only ourselves. If we learn, teach each other, share our creativity, we can heal ourselves, our community and our land." My time on The Okanagan and the experiences of indigo dyeing to support the "Water Is Life" Movement, was part of my physical healing after a near death experience last year. The Okanagan Twin blankets were birthed as part of SITE/ation as traditional Eastern Woodlands blue wool blankets. One blanket is a Courting or Marriage Blanket, and the other with the Spirit of a Buffalo Ghost Dancer is a Women's Dance Blanket. Both blankets have traveled from The Okanagan to Spillimacheen across from the Columbia River to Contentnea Creek Homeland, where they will dance on the Pow Wow Trail to globally reclaim indigo dyeing as medicine.
